Welcome!

This blog is my response to The Joy Dare by Ann Voskamp, author of the book "One Thousand Gifts". Every day (hopefully) I will be recording three things that bring me joy, three gifts from God, three things that I am grateful for.

April 14, 2012: I Lift Up My Eyes

3 gifts found looking up:
  • a robin sweetly singing her Maker's praise way up in the top of a tree this evening.
  • much needed rain.
  • comfort and peace from knowing the Lord is watching those I love.
 Psalm 121. A song of ascents.  I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
  where does my help come from?
 My help comes from the LORD,
 the Maker of heaven and earth.
 He will not let your foot slip—
   he who watches over you will not slumber;

indeed, he who watches over Israel
   will neither slumber nor sleep.

 The LORD watches over you—
   the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

the sun will not harm you by day,
   nor the moon by night.

 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
   he will watch over your life;

the LORD will watch over your coming and going
   both now and forevermore.

April 8, 2012: Hope Rising

3 gifts rising up:
  • the sun on this beautiful Easter Sunday.
  • voices in praise of our risen Lord Jesus at church this morning.
  • hope and joy within my heart.  So good to see a loved one today who seems to be moving in the right direction after a time of derailment.

March 11, 2012: Reading of God's Love and Faithfulness

3 gifts read:
  • Psalm 108 read in unison in church.  I will praise you, LORD, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;  let your glory be over all the earth. v. 3-5
  • the lyrics of Chris Tomlin's Everlasting God sung in worship. Our God, You reign forever.  Our hope, our strong deliverer. 'Cause You are, You are the everlasting God, the everlasting God.  You don't grow faint, you won't grow weary. You're the defender of the weak, you comfort those in need.  You lift us up on wings like eagles.
  • an email from a friend setting a date to get together for dinner.
For what it's worth, I attempted to change the comment section so that you can leave a comment without being a Google member.  Give it a try, I'd love to hear your thoughts about what gifts you're counting today!

February 26, 2012: Reflections of Love

3 gifts reflected:
  • This bird loudly singing God's praises today reflected the Creator's glory and brought me joy.
  • The vibrant beauty of flowers reflect God's love for us.  As I admired a bush covered with brilliantly colored fuchsia flowers, I thought about how God created so much beauty in the world, much of it with no other purpose than our enjoyment.
  • My husband's support of the ministry and volunteer work I love reflects his heart. He could pressure me to get a full-time job, but he values me and the passions God has given me.   As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart. Proverbs 27:19
